Sale of small diesel cars and sedans has fallen to just 1.8 per cent in April-July 2020, the lowest in recent history as per reports. The higher price of diesel vehicles by at least Rs 1 lakh, has been a deterrent. Moreover, manufacturers such as Maruti and Volkswagen have exited the segment altogether. The introduction of news BS6 engines has also driven up the prices of diesel vehicles in recent times. The drop in sales is not limited to small cars, the SUV category share also saw a decline in April-July to 42 per cent, according to JATO Analytics.
