BUDAPEST: Katie Ledecky regained the women’s freestyle 400m world title and collected her 16th world championship gold as she held off a determined challenge from Canadian 15-year-old Summer McIntosh in Budapest on Saturday.
Ledecky lost her title in 2019 and then her Olympic title and world record to Australian Ariarne Titmus, who is skipping Budapest.
Ledecky won in 3min 58.15sec, three-quarters of a second outside the world record. McIntosh also dipped under four minutes while American Leah Smith took bronze in 4:02.08.
