Born in a Punjabi Hindu family in Nawanshahr, Punjab, on June 22, 1932, Amrish Puri was Bollywood’s most sort-after dependable character actor. Amrish Puri, who was known for his powerful voice and screen presence. He did more than 200 movies in a career spanning over three decades. In the 50s, Amrish Puri started performing in plays and eventually became well-known as a stage actor and won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1979. Following the footsteps of his elder brothers – Madan Puri and Chaman Puri, Amrish Puri wanted to be the film lead but failed his initial screen tests and was rejected by every producer. Amrish Puri made his acting debut with the film ‘Prem Pujari’ in 1970, although the first film he signed was ‘Reshma Aur Sheraaa'(1971).
