NEW DELHI: Daily new Covid cases registered a marginal drop from Friday, but still remained high at 3.37 lakh. Once again, the majority of new cases were reported from the ‘states of concern’ identified by the Centre. The cumulative tally of infection by the Omicron variant of coronavirus has now breached the 10,000 mark.

India added another 358 cases of Omicron infections in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative figure to 10,050.

However daily cases saw a slight dip, falling from 3.47 lakh recorded on Friday to 3.37 lakh on Saturday. Total number of tests conducted on Friday was nearly 19.61 lakh, acording to data released by the health ministry.

Daily fataities also dropped, after the spike of over 700 recorded on Friday. 488 deaths took India’s cumulative toll in the pandemic to 488,884.

Among the states, Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka reported new cases upwards of the 40,000 mark. The graphs for Gujarat and Tamil Nadu too continue on an upward trajectory. However Delhi and West Bengal have witnessed a significant drop in new cases for the past few days.

Among the major cities, Bengaluru saw a sharp drop from yeserday, but still recorded the highest number of new infections. Fresh cases continue on a gradual decline in Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.
