An epitome of beauty, known for her acting prowess and a name that became synonymous with the Indian film industry, Madhubala, was a screen goddess like none other. Loved by millions, Madhubala was a hugely successful star of her generation. She rose to international prominence with her roles in films like ‘Mr. & Mrs. ’55’, ‘Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi,’ and ‘Half Ticket’, ‘Howrah Bridge’ and ‘Kala Pani,’ and the musical ‘Barsaat Ki Raat.’ Her portrayal of Anarkali in the historical epic drama ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ in 1960, earned her widespread acclaim. But, despite the fact that she eventually became an iconic actress, she had never received any national recognition or honour in her lifetime.
