Release of Simbu’s Maanaadu postponed; fans shocked! – Times of India

The release of Silambarasan TR‘s hugely awaited Maanaadu, which was supposed to hit screens tomorrow, has been postponed. The film’s producer wrote that he was postponing the release due to “unavoidable reasons”.

Taking to his Twitter page, Suresh Kamatchi wrote, “A creation created with a lot of dreams. I was looking forward to its delivery. It is with great pain that I inform you that the release of #Maanaadu has been postponed due to unavoidable reasons. I will announce the release date later and apologise for the inconvenience.”

The move has come as a shocked for both the film industry and fans, as the film, directed by Venkat Prabhu, had created tremendous buzz. The team had even released a pre-release trailer on November 19, building up the hype for the film. Many theatres across Tamil Nadu had even scheduled early morning shows for the film, with the earliest shows starting at 5am. Going by the booking for tickets, trade analysts and exhibitors were of the opinion that the film would become the biggest opener for Simbu at the box office.

The reason behind the postponement isn’t known yet. It is unclear if the recent order by the Tamil Nadu government, which mandated that public places like movie theatres and malls should only admit persons “who are vaccinated against COVID 19” is the reason behind this decision.

On November 22, Suresh Kamatchi had written to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin urging the government to reconsider its decision. The film industry had been apprehensive that this move would reduce footfalls in theatres. Tirupur Subramanian, president of the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association, had told us, “At least 10-15% audiences will hesitate to come to theatres because of this order.”

The film was initially supposed to have been released on November 4, but the producer had chosen to delay the release by two weeks and release on November 25 as two other films — Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe and Vishal and Arya’s Enemy — were also releasing for Deepavali.

Industry insiders tells us that there are a few financial settlements that have to be made by the producer and that is the reason why Suresh Kamatchi has been forced to take this decision. But some say that if the producer manages to raise the required amount, the film could release as planned. Watch this space for further developments.
