Tencent: This may be why Tencent dominates the world of gaming – Times of India

Tencent Holdings Ltd is a Chinese conglomerate and an internet and gaming giant. Currently, it is the world’s largest video games publisher. The conglomerate has been investing into some of the major game companies around the world, thus expanding its reach and control in the world of gaming. A recent report by PC Gamer gives a lowdown on how the Chinese conglomerate seems to have a finger in the major pies, as far as gaming is concerned. The investments, as per the report, goes beyond 300 companies.
Tencent has full control over Riot Games, famous for League of Legends. with a 100% stake in the company. League of Legends may have been inspired from World of Warcraft but it is one of the most popular PC games in the world.
Next up we have Epic Games, creator of Fortnite, one of most successful battle royale games in the world. Tencent has a 40% stake in Epic Games. Fortnite has been one of the highest earning games in the world too.
Tencent also has an 11.5% stake in Bluehole, makers of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or PUBG, the rival of Fortnite.
Tencent has a 5 percent stake in Ubisoft, Europe’s biggest video game company and maker of franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy games. It has a 5% stake in Activision Blizzard too.
Some of the other investments by Tencent that the report mentions are Grinding Gear Games (Path of Exile) – 80 percent, Supercell (84.3 percent), Paradox Interactive (5 percent) and more.
