‘Thor: Love and Thunder’: Is Gorr similar to Thanos in Chris Hemsworth’s film? Taika Waititi answers – Exclusive – Times of India

Marvel’s latest superhero film ‘Thor: Love And Thunder’ is all set for release on July 7. Writer-director Taika Waititi got candid about the Chris Hemsworth and Christian Bale starrer in an exclusive conversation with ETimes. From discussing Thor‘s sense of humour to talking about similarities between Gorr and Thanos, the director spills the beans. Not just this, Taika also talks about the possibility of Indian representation in the upcoming films. Watch the full interview right here.

How much of Thor’s sense of humour comes from Chris Hemsworth and how much comes from you?

It’s a mix, a blend. Chris is a very funny guy. He’s got good timing, he’s fast. My humour is a bit more surreal, I don’t know how to describe, but with the combination of the two of us, it seems to work perfectly. We had a lot of fun on the sets. Thor really is Chris!

Did anyone on the sets of Thor have a man crush on Chris?
A man crush, I guarantee. For sure! Everyone does. I mean, I’ve got man crush. All the men have got man crushes. Everyone was crushing on everyone on my sets.

The Indian audience loves Marvel and they love Thor. Since both your films in the Thor franchise have made definite statements on inclusivity and representation, is there a chance of an Indian touch in the next film?
Yeah, I’d love that. Why not? At this stage, anything goes. There are no rules anymore. We can do whatever we want. I’d love a New Zealand superhero, I’d love to have Indian superhero, we need native American superheros. Wherever we go, people complain about immigrants. Can you imagine the flavour of food without them? Without Indian food in America or England, we’d just be eating soggy vegetables. We’d have to eat just flavourless sausages. Food that makes all the countries great is all from immigrant countries. It’s their flavour, baby.

In the trailer we notice similarities between Gorr and Thanos, especially from their relationships. While the team was conceiving and writing that character, did this ever cross your mind?
It never really crossed my mind because I never thought of Thanos as a father. And what he did to get that stone, I never felt there were those emotions. And in my film, I really feel the father’s pain. I understand a lot more why he is doing it. I understand the character of Gorr a lot more.

There is a perception that Christian Bale is a very serious actor. But we hear on the sets, you were playing music and he was responding to it. Is there a fun side to him that you’ve explored while making this film?
He is very focussed on his work and he is somebody who comes to work, to work. But he’s got a great sense of humour and a lot of what he does on sets, even if it’s having fun or playing around, is still to do with work. I play music for everyone, I just don’t like silence on my sets. That’s just how I am.
