NEW DELHI: With Covid-19 cases witnessing a surge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a review meeting with chiefs ministers. Coronavirus cases have been rising in some states since the last two weeks. Here are the key highlights:
*PM Modi asserted that it is clear that the threat of coronavirus is not fully gone and Omicron sub-variants continue to pose threat
*We have to work on the suggestions of scientists and experts with a pre-emptive, pro-active and collective approach: PM
*There is a need to implement strategy of Test, Track and Treat equally effectively. In the current situation of coronavirus, it is necessary that there is 100 per cent RT-PCR test for patients admitted in hospitals who are serious influenza cases
*Matter of pride for every Indian that 96 per cent adult population in the country has got at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine: PM Modi
*The Prime Minister said that administering vaccine to every eligible child at the earliest is the priority
*There is a need to promote Covid-appropriate behaviour in public places
*Meanwhile, PM Modi urged all states to get safety audits of all hospitals done on a priority basis to prevent fire incidents which have been increasing amid heatwave. “Our response time should also be minimal,” he said
*PM Modi also asked states which have not reduced VAT on fuel to do so
*Centre reduced the excise duty on fuel prices last November and also requested states to reduce tax. I am not criticising anyone but request Maharashtra, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu to reduce VAT now and give benefits to people: PM
Several chief ministers, including West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee, Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adityath, Chhattisgarh’s Bhupesh Baghel, Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab’s Bhagwant Mann, participated in the interaction.
India recorded 2,927 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours which pushed the case tally to 4,30,65,496 while the active caseload increased to 16,279, according to Union health ministry data on Wednesday.
