WhatsApp Reactions adds support for all available emojis on the beta channel – Times of India

WhatsApp has started testing a new feature for the Message Reactions tool. According to a report by XDA Developers, both iOS and Android beta app users will soon be able to use all available emojis to react to WhatsApp messages. The report also mentions that the Meta-owned instant messaging service is usually slower than Telegram in “developing and releasing major new features.” Telegram, on the other hand, offers the latest features bundled together in new updates. Moreover, the end-to-end encrypted messaging platform has recently introduced a paid subscription programme called Telegram Premium that allows users to access “more emoji reactions and other perks” for $5 (Rs 460 for Indian users). To compare, currently, Telegram is unable to offer the all-emoji support feature for Message Reactions for both free and paid users.
WhatsApp’s all-emoji Message Reactions feature availability
As per a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp users who are running the beta versions 22.14.0.71 on iOS and 2.22.15.6 on Android will be able to use all the available emojis to react to a message. However, the report mentions that users who can’t find the new addition have to be patient as it is a “server-side, gradual rollout.” The report also states that WhatsApp has not made any official announcement regarding the release of this upgrade to Message Reactions on a broader scale. Meanwhile, if everything goes as intended, WhatsApp might release this new addition in the upcoming weeks, the report claims.
How will WhatsApp’s all-emoji Message Reactions feature work
Presently, WhatsApp users have to press and hold a message to get the default emoji reactions menu. However, the all-emoji feature will add a new plus (+) icon to that list. On clicking the new icon, users will get access to the entire emoji library where they can use any one of them to react to a message. Moreover, users will also be able to choose skin tone variations available for some specific emojis.
Importance of WhatsApp’s all-emoji Message Reactions feature
The default emoji reactions that are currently available are “too limited in terms of expressing ourselves without sending a dedicated message/reply,” reports XDA Developers. Users can easily and creatively acknowledge WhatsApp messages without typing a reply, as this new addition will help them to choose any emoji from the current library. The report also mentions that Telegram might release this feature as a Premium addition for its paid users in future.
