Why Timex is not taking a dig at just Apple Watch – Times of India

If you are an Apple Watch user or even use any other smartwatch, you may find yourself in an argument someday with “horologists,” telling you that the smartwatch on your wrist is not what you call a watch but a mere gadget that also tells time. And Timex seems to be agreeing quite much with this as it takes a dig at the smartwatch.
Timex, which has been making watches for more than 150 years now, is promoting its new $140 timepiece in collaboration with the US clothing brand AdSum. The watch has gone out of stock but Timex’s creative jibe at smartwatches has taken the internet by storm.
On a billboard in New York city, the watchmaker takes a jibe at Apple Watch and every other smartwatch reading, “Know the time without seeing you have 1,249 unanswered emails.” If you still did not understand this, then let us ease it for you, Timex points out to notification anxiety.
Since its introduction, Apple Watch has slowed things down for traditional watchmakers. Because of this, many watchmakers, including Timex, have been forced to revisit their strategy. However, so far no watchmaker has been able to come close to Apple Watch. Apple continues to lead the watch market for almost 4 years now.
Smartwatches are all great, a piece of technological advancement. You might have heard of Apple Watch saving lives, but as the saying goes, “every coin has two sides.” The notification anxiety and “datafication” of body stats are two major concerns of smartwatches that go unheard.
But is it not a bit rich for Timex to blame others when they also make smartwatches? The company has a diverse portfolio of smartwatches.
