Just a day after the films were released, reports state that theatre owners have taken a call to reduce the number of screenings nationwide citing ‘low footfalls’. Around 1300 shows of the Aamir starrer and 1000 shows of the Akshay starrer have been reduced across the country. the report on Bollywood Hungama also claimed that many shows on Friday morning were even cancelled owing to a no-show.
Going by the box office numbers, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ saw an estimated 40% drop in collections on Friday, while ‘Raksha Bandhan’ had a 30% drop in its collections. While the Aamir and Kareena Kapoor Khan film saw few takers in mass circuits, Akshay and Bhumi Pednekar’s family film couldn’t draw in viewers in metro cities.
The report further goes on to state that cinema owners have ‘voluntarily reduced’ the number of shows allotted to both the festive releases to increase occupancy on limited screens.
It also states that the films were released with around 10,000 shows across the country. As a result of poor footfalls, the exhibitors reportedly decided to reduce the screenings of both films to ‘save up on the overheads’.
As per a report on Boxoffice India, Raksha Bandhan is expected to earn around Rs 5.50-6 crore nett, thus taking its two-day total to around Rs 13.50-14 crore nett.
‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, on the other hand, is expected to earn around Rs 6.50-7 crore nett which will take the film’s total to an estimated Rs 18-18.50 crore nett.
