android: Google Pixel phones begin to get Android 12: Design, features and how to install – Times of India

With the launch of Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro smartphones, the company has also started to roll out Android 12 OS for its smartphones. Although the tech giant has not officially confirmed which older Pixel devices will receive the update, it is expected that Pixel 4, Pixel 4A, Pixel 4A 5G, Pixel 5 and Pixel 5A will get it first.
Android 12: Material You
Officially unveiled at Google’s I/O developer conference in May, the operating system has been available to developers for quite sometime now. The update comes with a new design language dubbed as Material You. According to the company, the new UI is aimed to provide a more personalised experience. It allows you to sync all icons and menus according to colours they pick from the available colour palette. The icons also change to match the colour of the background in that particular area.
Android 12: Features
The new operating system comes with smart face detection that rotates the screen depending on how you are holding the device. It also allows you to control smart TVs with a built-in remote. With Android 12 you can also access the application while it is downloading. Although India doesn’t have cars that can be unlocked with a smartphone as of now, the OS gets a Car Key feature that you can use to unlock your smart car.
Android 12: Performance
As per the company, Android 12 reduces the CPU time used by core system services by 22% and the use of big cores by 15%. The tech giant has also improved transitions and app startup times by reducing lock contention and latency variability and optimised I/O for faster app loading.
How to get the Android 12 on your Pixel smartphone
As mentioned above, the new operating system is expected to be available on Pixel 4, Pixel 4A, Pixel 4A 5G, Pixel 5 and Pixel 5A at first. Usually, users get a notification whenever a new update is available for their device. You can also check for the update manually by going into System > Advance > System update. If the update is available you just have to tap on the download and install option at the bottom right corner of the screen.
