Microsoft has been working on improving its Windows Subsystem for Android on Windows 11. The company has already made a couple of new changes like updating the Subsystem to Android 12, adding better integration and more.
9to5Google has reported that the company is adding some new features and improvements to the Subsystem. The new changes are the part of the July update available for Windows Insider users.
For those unintended, the Windows Subsystem for Android allows Windows 11 users to easily download, install and run Android apps on their Windows 11-powered laptops and PCs. It brings native Android apps support to Windows devices. It is also important to note that Microsoft has partnered with Amazon Appstore to officially offer Android apps. However, users also have the option to sideload the apps.
Windows Subsystem for Android update: What’s new
Coming back to the update, users those who will choose to install the latest firmware (version 2205.40000.14.0) will get some networking related improvements such as VPN and IPv6 support to the subsystem Apart from that the Android apps will now also be able to access local network devices on ARM computers.
The subsystem Settings app has now been updated to support advanced networking as a part of which the IP address has been removed from the Developer section in the Settings app. That also means that the Windows Subsystem for Android will now have the same IP address as the system.
Apart from the network-related improvements, Microsoft has also added some video playback improvements. With the update, Android apps running on Windows Subsystem for Android will be able to tell Windows to keep the screen awake while playing a video.
Then there’s on security feature added to the subsystem which now prevents users from taking screenshots for the apps that run in ‘secure’ mode.
