apple: Apple fired leader of #AppleToo movement, here’s what she has to say on her sacking and more – Times of India

For the last few months, Apple employees started a ‘movement’ and had working to find out if fellow employees had faced any harassment or discrimination at work. Called the #AppleToo movement, it was being led by Janneke Parish. Last week, however, saw her getting fired by Apple for reportedly deleting files off of her work devices during an internal investigation — an action Apple categorised as “non-compliance.”
Parrish has spoken to The Verge on her sacking, Apple’s investigation and more. On Apple’s investigation, Parrish told The Verge that she was called for a meeting with HR and global security on September 30. She said her devices were confiscated but before that she deleted apps with personal information like Robinhood and others. “Apple doesn’t need to know how much money I lost on GameStop. I work on political campaigns, and Democratic political campaign information has to be kept private.”
A week later she was informed that she was being suspended and all her internal accounts were deactivated. A few days later Apple fired her for deleting the files.
Parrish, however, said that really wasn’t the case for her termination. “I believe I was fired in retaliation for speaking out, for my work with #AppleToo, and out of concern that I was organising to help other employees tell their stories. In my view, this is entirely retaliation for trying to bring Apple’s actions to light and publicly asking the company to do better,” she told The Verge.
Parrish doesn’t believe that the #AppleToo movement is over. “I think seeing that Apple would rather fire an employee for speaking out and asking the company to do better instead of actually doing better says volumes about the company and its priorities.” She further said that her goal is to make Apple better for everyone. “And it seems like Apple is less interested in that than I am,” she said in an interview with The Verge.
