Award-winning game Elden Ring has sold 20 million units in its first year – Times of India

Envisioned by popular author George R. R. Martin and developed by award-winning studio FromSoftware, the fantasy role-playing game (RPG) Elden Ring has achieved remarkable success since coming out last February. The game has now crossed the 20 million mark for copies sold as per the developer’s official announcement.
In its announcement, FromSoftware said, “Combining the development capabilities of FromSoftware and the marketing power of Bandai Namco Entertainment‘s overseas network, this title has been supported by fans since its release on February 25, 2022, and has shipped more than 20 million units worldwide to date.”

These ‘incredible’ numbers for Elden Ring are an aggregate of both physical and digital game sales from around the world. The RPG title has reached this milestone after having raced to 12 million copies sold in March 2022 – within one month of its release.
Elden Ring won multiple awards despite tough competition
Taking a look at the numerous award wins and nominations bagged by Elden Ring, it only seems reasonable that the game’s commercial performance has followed in the footsteps of its ‘highly’ positive critical reception. Despite releasing in the same year as highly anticipated games God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring won ‘Game of the Year’ at The Game Awards 2022.

Bandai Namco chipped in with a message of thanks
Elden Ring’s publisher Bandai Namco also shared the achievement on its website. The announcement read, “Since its release … Elden Ring continues to spark theories and discussions as tarnished from all around the globe explore the Lands Between, piecing together characters and events to reveal a deep and mysterious lore. Warmly welcomed by players and critically acclaimed, the title received various awards throughout the year. Both Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and FromSoftware, Inc. are very thankful for each and every player stepping into this world.”
