NEW DELHI: Maharashtra and Bengal on Thursday lifted all the Covid induced restrictions after more than two years of the pandemic.
The decision for Maharashtra was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope said that wearing of face mask will be voluntary from April 2.
“Wearing of masks has been made voluntary. Although we have relaxed all the curbs, we are still urging the public to use masks while in crowded and public areas,” Tope said.
“From Gudhi Padwa (Marathi New Year which falls on April 2 this time), all Covid-19 related restrictions under the Epidemic Diseases Act and Disaster Management Act will be withdrawn,” Tope added.
Meanwhile, the Bengal government stressed on the use of masks and hygiene maintenance while issuing the notification.
“Accordingly, it is hereby notified that restrictions as currently in force by aforesaid orders are hereby withdrawn. However, advisory in respect of health and hygiene protocols including wearing of masks at all times, hand hygiene and sanitisation of public places shall continue to be strictly observed until further order,” it stated.
Earlier, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh also lifted all the Covid restrictions in the state and urged all the residents to continue to follow Covid appropriate behaviour.
