Assam has temporarily banned bringing live pigs and poultry into the state. Atul Bora, Assam minister of agriculture, animal husbandry and veterinary said the step has been taken in view of an outbreak of avian influenza in Bihar and Jharkhand. This has been done to protect the interests of local pig and poultry farming, Bora said. Bringing live pigs into Assam has been banned to prevent outbreak of African Swine Fever, although no case has been detected in the state in recent months, he added.
