Following Diwali celebrations, Delhi’s AQI levels were recorded as most severe at 462, despite a city-wide cracker ban. This is the worst AQI the capital has seen post-Diwali, since 2015. The drop in AQI is being accredited to the widespread flouting of the Supreme Court’s ban on firecrackers accompanied by other factors. The share of stubble-burning pollution in Delhi’s AQI rose from 25 per cent to 36 per cent on November 5. Pollution accompanied by moderate fog resulted in dropped visibility of as low as 200 metres in parts of the city. Lower temperatures of 15 degrees further trapped pollutants close to the land surface.
