e-daakhil: E-Daakhil makes lodging plaints, getting relief easier | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The district consumer commission of Chandigarh has passed an order against a Tamil Nadu-based firm for full refund of payment made by a consumer for selling a poor quality ‘tawa’ (griddle made of cast iron) with interest and imposed cost barely five months after the buyer lodged an online complaint through E-Daakhil.
In another case, the Aligarh district consumer commission passed an order against a reputed cloth shop to refund 16,990 with interest for selling a defective saree to a customer and also imposed cost within months after the consumer filed an online complaint against the store shop.
Though these complaints don’t involve big amounts, these instances illustrate how the new regime of filing of online complaints from home, consumers arguing their own cases without needing to engage advocates, and finally getting relief within months, have started showing positive results. Since the launch of the E-Daakhil in September last year at the national consumer disputes redressal commission (NCDRC), nearly 9,800 complaints have been filed online through E-Daakhil in national, state and district consumer commissions.
Though the facility is still in its nascent stage, 213 cases have been disposed of via E-Daakhil, which includes 158 cases in district commissions, 18 cases in state commissions and 37 cases in the national commission. The official said among states and UTs, Delhi and Maharashtra have been the front-runners in number of cases disposed, with 67 and 38 cases respectively.
The average time taken to dispose cases filed through E-Daakhil so far is 100 days for district commissions and 90 days for state commissions, which is considerably less than the time taken to dispose of cases otherwise.
This provision of online filing of complaints was made in the consumer protection act of 2019, which stipulates that every consumer complaint must be disposed of expeditiously, with an endeavour to decide the same within three months where no analysis or testing of commodity is required and within five months where analysis or testing of commodity is required.
The E-Daakhil was introduced as a hassle-free interface to consumers to conveniently approach the relevant consumer commission, dispensing the need to travel and to be physically present to file the grievance.
