elon musk: Elon Musk on what he thinks is important for sustainable future – Times of India

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has always been big on sustainability — be it with Tesla cars or how he talks about not owning any properties. At the annual Tesla shareholders’ meeting, Musk spoke about what he believes are important parts of a sustainable future. Musk, as per a report by CNBC, said that according to him solar and wind power, electric vehicles of all kinds — cars, boats, airplanes — and batteries for energy storage are the three important parts of a sustainable future.
He told the shareholders that “as we move to a sustainable energy grid and electric vehicles, then obviously we move to a fully sustainable energy economy which is where we want to get to as quickly as possible. The sooner the better!”
Musk has been a big advocate of sustainability. In the past, he was quoted as saying, “The point of all this was, and remains, accelerating the advent of sustainable energy, so that we can imagine far into the future and life is still good. That’s what ‘sustainable’ means. It’s not some silly, hippy thing — it matters for everyone.”
The Tesla CEO also confirmed that Tesla is shifting its headquarters from California to Texas. Tesla is currently headquartered in Palo Alto, California but Musk said that the company is shifting to Austin, Texas. Tesla does have a plant in California which will continue to operate.“To be clear we will be continuing to expand our activities in California,” Musk said. “Our intention is to increase output from Fremont and Giga Nevada by 50%. If you go to our Fremont factory it’s jammed,” Musk told shareholders.
Tesla isn’t the first high-profile tech company to make the move out of California. Hewlett Packard and Oracle too have shifted to Austin, Texas. Musk explained the reason behind making the move. “It’s tough for people to afford houses, and people have to come in from far away. There’s a limit to how big you can scale in the Bay Area,” said the Tesla CEO.
