In wake of an alarming rate of crashes and accidents, the Indian Air Force has decided to retire the remaining four squadrons of the old single-engine MiG-21s. These supersonic fighters were inducted by the IAF in 1963. MiG-21s have been plagued by an alarmingly high crash rate and will finally be retired by 2025. At least six MiG-21s have crashed since January last year, in which five pilots have been killed.
