On May 25, 2020 George Floyd was killed when cops kneeled on his neck for over 9 minutes in US’ Minneapolis. The horrific death was recorded and posted online by witnesses who implored the officers to let him go. The consequent uproar resulted in thousands of protestors marching for justice and clashing with police- all while a pandemic raged across the globe. The global protests came to be known as the Black Lives Matter movement. Thousands marched and demanded justice for the innumerable victims of police brutality and systemic racism. After a year of prolonged investigation, protests, and a highly publicised trial, Derek Chauvin- the officer who knelt on Floyd’s neck, was found guilty of all charges of murder in the case.
