Born as Karan Chopra in Gujranwala, Punjab, (now in Pakistan), Karan Dewan starred in over a hundred movies in his film career of thirty-seven years. He was known as a jubilee star as most of his films were silver jubilees. Karan Dewan made his acting debut as Puran in the Punjabi movie ‘Puran Bhagat’ in 1939. Karan Dewan’s decisive film was ‘Rattan’ (1944) which turned out to be the biggest hit of that year. Karan Dewan married actress-singer Manju in 1944 following the release of ‘Rattan’ in which she had a character role. He worked with a wide variety and galaxy of heroines such as Nargis, Meena Kumari, Suraiya and others. Karan Dewan died on August 2, 1979, in Mumbai. For more news and updates, stay tuned to ETimes.
