Google starts testing feature to show availability of hospital beds in India – Times of India

In the wake of the Covid-19 situation in India, internet search giant Google has announced new measures and useful features it is rolling out across its services — including Search, YouTube, Maps and Google Pay.
“Right now, we’re focused on three priority areas: ensuring people can access the latest and most authoritative information; amplifying vital safety and vaccination messages; and providing financial backing for affected communities, health authorities and other organizations,” said the company in a blog post revealing the features.
Google Maps
The company has started a pilot programme on Google Maps that makes use of its Q&A function to help users searching for hospital beds and medical oxygen. Using this feature, users will be able to ask about and share local information on the availability of beds and medical oxygen in select locations. “As this will be user generated content and not provided by authorised sources, it may be required to verify the accuracy and freshness of the information before utilizing it,” added Google.
Google Search
When searching about vaccination, Google said that its Search shows users relevant information such as the latest updates on vaccine safety, efficacy and side-effects, plus registration information that directs users to the Co-WIN website.
Further, it shows information segregated in tabs such as prevention, self-care, and treatment for easy viewing.
When it comes to searching about testing and vaccination centres locations, Google said that it shows over 23,000 vaccination centres across the country in English and eight Indian languages.
YouTube
For all those who rely on YouTube as their primary source of information, Google has created a set of playlist about vaccines, preventing the spread of COVID-19. Google claims that these facts are from experts on COVID-19 care.
Google Pay
Google has added the support to donate to nonprofit organizations that are helping in this time.
Those who wish to donate to organisations like GiveIndia, Charities Aid Foundation, Goonj, Save the Children, Seeds, UNICEF India can do so using Google Pay.
