Google takes on Zoom with these new features in personal Gmail calls – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Internet search giant Google is rolling out new filters to its video calling platform Google Meet to make it more interactive for users. The company is rolling out filters including cats, astronauts, jellyfish and more to Meet calls.
These will be available for Meet users on both Android and iOS mobile platforms. This was announced by the company via its official Twitter account along with a small lip that shows how these filters can be used.

How to add filters to Google Meet
According to the video shared in the tweet, once the user is in a video call on Meet, he/she should be able to see a sparkling emoji on the bottom right corner.
Tapping on this icon should open a bar at the bottom with options including No effects, Blur, Backgrounds, Styles and Filters. From here they simply have to tap on Filters to see all the options available.
Filter support from rivals
Google Meet’s biggest rivals — Zoom and Microsoft Teams — come with support for filters.
Back in March, Microsoft even added support for Snapchat filters for the desktop app. It also introduced a “Together Mode” that lets users attend calls in different backdrops such as o a coffee shop or an auditorium.
In February, earlier this year, Zoom added augmented reality (AR) facial effects called Studio Effects. These include quirky backgrounds as well as bizarre filters such as eyebrows, facial hair, and lip colour alterations during video calls.
New features coming to Google Meet
Recently, Google announced that it is adding two new features to improve its live-streaming capabilities for its WorkSpace customers. Google Meet will be able to invite people from other domains for their live streams. Along with this, they also have support for live captions for improved accessibility.
Presently, Google Meet lets users host live streams with up to 100,000 participants. One of the limitations of hosting the live stream was that only accounts within the host’s domain were allowed to be invited for these live streams.
