“The word flash sales was never intended to be against discount sales or any of the festive offer sales. Consumers are getting a good deal, we have no problem. Predatory pricing or such methods in a way cheating the public of choice is what we are against,” Goyal, who also holds the portfolio of consumer affairs ministry, said at an event here on Tuesday. He added that companies with hefty pockets canafford to acquire consumers at any cost, investing billions of dollars into India and incurring huge losses is not a problem for them.
The minister called upon all e-commerce players to join the government-backed open network for digital commerce (ONDC), which supports in-clusive e-commerce and doesn’t threaten big commerce.
“If I may make a prophecy today, ONDC of tomorrow that I can see will not be an ONDC of India, it will be the transformational engine of ecommerce across the world in the years to come…I would like to invite all e-commerce companies, big and small, local, national or global to get onto the ONDC bandwagon. I would encourage them to come onto it at the right time so that at some point they may not be left behind and it may not be too late for them to board the bus or the train. It’s a bullet train. Be a part of this bullet train journey because if you are left behind in the station, the train would have gone far ahead. . at some stage, we have to cut off those who remain left behind. This is the right time,” Goyal said.
