Guess why Saswata Chatterjee had to turn down Karan Johar’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ – Times of India

In his 18-year-long career in Bengali and Hindi films, Saswata Chatterjee has played a wide range of roles—good, bad and ugly— and many of them are not only just fan favourites but also close to his heart.
The powerhouse actor who has been a part of a number of Hindi films like ‘Dhaakad’ and ‘Dobaara’ to name a few. Be it the protagonist, antagonist, or even a comic character, Saswata can pull off any critical character with sheer accuracy and control.

However, not many people know the terrific actor was once offered a key role in Karan Johar’s next film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, which has Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in the lead. However, Saswata had to turn down the offer from Karan Johar. This was indeed a big decision for him. The seasoned actor had to dance in the film and Saswata is not comfortable with that and so he couldn’t say ‘yes’.
“Yes, I received an offer to play an important role in Karan Johar’s film. But I said no because those who know me can understand that I can’t dance. And this character I was offered needed me to perform Bharatanatyam. Can you imagine? So, I had to reject the offer. There’s no other reason. I would have loved to work with Karan Johar in his film,” Saswata quips while speaking to ETimes.

While Saswata didn’t accept the role Tota Roy Chowdhury and Churni Ganguly from Kolkata are part of the cast which also has Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi in key roles. The film marks Karan Johar’s return to feature film direction after his 2016 hit ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’.

Saswata’s next Hindi film is Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Bad Boy’ which also marks the debut of Mithun Chakraborty’s son Namashi. The romantic comedy also stars Johny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Darshan Jariwala in other important roles.

Meanwhile, Saswata has started shooting for his next Bengali film ‘Jomaloye Jibonto Bhanu’, which is a tribute to iconic actor Bhanu Bandyopadhyay.
