IPL 2020: Sixes galore! 153 maximums already in just 10 matches so far | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: That’s mammoth. The ball sails out of the park. It’s gigantic. The ball lands on the roof. It’s enormous. It’s raining sixes here. Ah! that’s monstrous – The commentators are running out of words, with the sixes count increasing super fast in IPL 2020 in the UAE.
Since only three stadiums are hosting the games, the teams have a good idea about the nature of the tracks by now. That knowledge will only grow in the upcoming games, which could mean more sixes being hit.
However, the number of sixes hit on a ground is also directly proportional of course to the size of the ground.
The stadium in Sharjah for instance has a smaller playing area and a flatter pitch. It was tagged as the most batting friendly venue ahead of the IPL and in just two matches played at this ground so far, there have been 62 sixes that have been hit here.
SIXES HIT SO FAR:
Only 10 IPL matches have been played so far and the glittering tournament has already witnessed 153 sixes (till the RCB vs MI match on Monday).
The league kicked off with a mouth-watering clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians and nine sixes were hit in the IPL 2020 opener.

THE GROUNDS:
Due to the fast-spreading COVID-19 pandemic IPL 2020 was shifted to the UAE. Sheikh Zayed Stadium (Abu Dhabi), Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai) and the Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah) were selected to host all 60 matches of IPL 2020.
Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah): The iconic cricket ground has witnessed a huge number of sixes in the tournament so far, thanks largely to its small playing area and flat pitch. The venue, with a capacity of 17,000, has hosted just two matches in the league so far and has witnessed 62 sixes. That’s the highest six count amongst the three venues hosting the matches this time. The first match here was played between RR and CSK and the teams hit 33 maximums in total. The second match was played between RR and KXIP and the batsmen smashed 29 enormous maximums in the match. Both the matches were won by RR. That’s an average of 31 sixes per game at this ground so far.
Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai): With a capacity of over 25,000, which is of course not being used in these Covid times, the Dubai International Cricket Stadium has hosted the most number of matches so far at five. This is UAE’s largest cricket stadium, so clearing the ropes on a regular basis here is also tough. The batsmen have hit 58 sixes on this ground so far. That’s an average of 11.6 sixes per game at this ground so far.
Sheikh Zayed Stadium (Abu Dhabi): This is a large ground and clearing the boundary is the toughest here. It’s one of the largest stadiums in the world. Since 2010, there have been 93 T20 matches played here and the overall run rate is just 7.03 runs per over, the lowest among the three venues. The Abu Dhabi ground was expected to be the least batting friendly venue ahead of the tournament. In the three matches, the venue has hosted so far in the league, the batsmen have sent the ball outside the park on 33 occasions. That’s an average of 11 sixes per game at this ground so far in IPL 2020.
