IPL 2022: RR join GT & LSG in final four, RCB need MI to beat DC | Cricket News – Times of India

On Friday, the inaugural IPL champions, the Rajasthan Royals, became the third team to officially qualify for the playoffs with a 5 wicket win vs CSK. With 18 points and a NRR of +0.298, RR have finished second on the points table, behind Gujarat Titans.
That means that LSG have been pushed down to third, behind RR on NRR. LSG have a NRR of +0.251 and are also on 18 points. RCB are currently fourth with 16 points and a NRR of -0.253. They have played all 14 of their league games.
And that means that the equation for Delhi Capitals, who play their last league match later today vs MI and are currently 5th on the points table is very simple.
Here’s how things stand on the morning of Saturday, May 21 with only two matches now left to play in the league stage now, of which one (SRH vs PBKS on Sunday) is a dead rubber:
1) GT finish on top of the points table with 20 points. They will play Qualifier 1 on May 24 in Kolkata
2) RR and LSG are joint second on points at 18, but RR finish second due to a superior net run rate (+0.298). They will play GT in Qualifier 1 on May 24 in Kolkata
3) LSG finish third, behind RR on NRR (+0.251). They will play the Eliminator on May 25 in Kolkata against either RCB or DC (whoever finishes fourth)
4) If DC win against MI today, they will tie for fourth spot with RCB on 16 points and will qualify due to a better NRR
5) If MI beat DC today, RCB will finish sole fourth and qualify
6) The SRH-PBKS game on Sunday is of no relevance to the playoffs race with both sides knocked out
