Post pandemic, it seems the audience is only flocking to the theatres for big budget films that have seen decent footfalls initially even if the film didn’t perform too well later. It has been a struggle for medium and small budget films that barely managed to hit the Rs 5 crore nett mark. The plus side for ‘Jersey’ is that the film has already recovered its costs from satellite and music rights as is the case with most recent releases.
The film has received positive responses. Fans of Shahid Kapoor also hailed his performance in the sports drama. Director Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also directed the original, received a standing ovation after a screening. Shahid Kapoor shared a video of the same on social media and wrote, “The director. The man. The captain of the ship. So proud of you. You deserve all this love. And more. (sic)”
Even South star Nani was all praise for Shahid after watching the Hindi version of Telugu film ‘Jersey’. “Watched #Jersey and out @Gowtam19 again hit it out of the park. What performances and heart. #Shahidkapoor @Mrunal0801
