Kim Soo Hyun, amidst the success of the romance K-drama ‘Queen of Tears’, has made headlines once again with his return to military duty ahead of the series finale. As the beloved actor garners widespread acclaim for his portrayal in the popular show, he remains committed to fulfilling his national defense duties, exemplifying his patriotism by joining 490 reservists in undergoing reserve forces training.
Despite his soaring popularity and hectic schedule, the actor took the time to participate in military training, donning his uniform with pride and demonstrating his commitment to serving his nation. He reportedly participated in the Reserve Force training alongside other 490 trainees on April 23. To update his fans, Soo Hyun shared a special message through the fandom social networking service, Bubble, where he affectionately introduced himself as Army Sergeant Kim. Reflecting on his experience, he expressed that he “spent the day meeting 490 new people this morning”.
Soo Hyun’s return to military service holds great importance, considering his previous enlistment in October 2017, which saw him fulfilling his duties in public service due to a prior cardiac surgery. However, his determination to serve at the forefront led him to undergo re-examinations and ultimately secure a position in the first-degree military service, where he rose to the rank of sergeant in a front-line reconnaissance battalion within the 1st Division.
Following his discharge from military service in July 2019, Soo Hyun made a return to the entertainment scene, with cameo appearances in dramas such as ‘Crash Landing on You’ and ‘Hotel Del Luna’. His much-anticipated comeback as a leading actor came in the form of the hit K-drama ‘It’s Okay Not to Be Okay’, where he showcased his acting talent alongside co-stars Seo Ye Ji and Oh Jung Se.
Currently, ‘Queen of Tears’, marked as one of the biggest K-dramas of 2024 that has captured the hearts of viewers worldwide since its premiere on March 9. During the drama’s press conference, Soo Hyun opened up about his experience portraying his character and collaborating with co-star Kim Ji Won for the first time. Admitting to feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, he shared, “To be working with someone you only see onscreen, it’s very exciting. But it’s also something that induces a lot of nervousness”, as quoted by KdramaStars.
