macOS Monterey 12.1 Beta: Apple rolls out macOS Monterey 12.1 beta with SharePlay feature – Times of India

Apple recently released the macOS Monterey for the public and now the tech giant has seeded the first public beta of macOS Monterey 12.1 for testing purposes. Unveiled at WWDC in June, macOS Monterey brings in notable features to PCs but few features were missing when the company released the update. One of such features is SharePlay that has been rolled out in the latest beta update. It can be expected that the feature will be available to all users soon when the company will release a stable update for the public.
The SharePlay feature was first introduced in iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, and tvOS 15.1. The feature gives users the ability to stream movies, TV, music and other media using FaceTime. When a user plays media, playback immediately starts for the whole group at the same time. The feature only works on Apple devices with the latest operating systems.
Here’s how to use the SharePlay feature on macOS Monterey

  1. Start a FaceTime call with one or multiple users.
  2. After connecting, open a music or video streaming app on your device. But keep in mind that all the participants in the call should have subscriptions to those apps. Currently, the feature only supports Apple Music and Apple TV but the company has said that support for third party apps will be available soon.
  3. Once you play something, the other participants will get a prompt to accept or reject a SharePlay request.
  4. When you play any music or video, it will automatically be shared with the other users as well.
  5. You can also share your entire screen including third party apps and content.
  6. To end SharePlay, you can tap on the icon at the top left corner of your device, tap on SharePlay icon and select end SharePlay.
