An architect couple has built India’s first ‘hempcrete’ house in Uttarakhand. The technology uses hemp plant or ‘bhang’ in a mix of wood, mud, water and other minerals as a building mixture. This technology is prevalent in other countries such as Australia and New Zealand. The couple has built a 5-room house using hempcrete in the Pauri Garhwal district. The house is spread over 800 sq ft and cost Rs 30 lakh to build. It is built using farm waste hemp and therefore it is eco-friendly and affordable.
