Mahesh Manjrekar on Lata Mangeshkar: We treated her like a goddess but we never realized that she is also a mortal – Times of India

The news of the demise of ‘Nightingale of IndiaLata Mangeshkar has left a void in the entire film industry that can never fill. While the entire nation is mourning the loss of the legendary singer, ETimes caught up with actor-director Mahesh Manjrekar.

Mahesh Manjrekar said “It is a black day for India. I think nothing can get more depressing than this news. Because we are used to having this goddess among us. We treated her like a goddess but we never realized that she is also a mortal. We have been listening to her song since our childhood. She was an incredible woman”

While recalling his interaction with veteran singer, Manjrekar said “I had a good fortune to interact with her couple of times. She used to give Deenanath Mangeshkar awards for theatres. We got such an award twice for our plays. It’s very shocking for me because she had called me one month ago to inquire about my health. It was such a warm gesture”

“I think no name is half big as her name in India. Nobody had any reservation of her. She was such a sweet woman and an extremely proud Indian. We cannot imagine a life without Laltaji” he concluded.

Lata Mangeshkar left for her heavenly abode at 8.12 am. Her mortal remains to be taken to Shivaji Park for people to pay homage.
