meta: Why Apple could be offering bonuses of up to $1,80,000 to some employees – Times of India

Tech giant Apple could be offering bonuses to its select employees in the US to prevent them from defecting to Meta and other tech companies, claims a report by Bloomberg. The bonuses are said to be in the range of $50,000 to $180,000.
There is a caveat, though. The reported bonuses are being given as restricted stock units which would take about four years to fully vest, thus giving the software engineers a reason to stick with Apple for that time at least. The Cupertino-based tech giant has reportedly seen defection of about a 100 employees to Meta in the past few months, who has poached talents from AI, AR and other software and hardware segments.
One other thing to note is that these bonuses are being offered to a few employees only, and as such, could cause dissatisfaction among the others. Apple did say earlier this month that it would be giving all the employees in the US, including the retail workers, $1,000 bonuses.
The recent rise in the COVID-19 cases particularly due to the Omicron variant has given hybrid work across the globe a jolt. Apple had earlier made some strict decisions for the employees and wanted them to come work at the offices for three days a week. Compared to Apple, the hybrid work rules of other tech companies like Meta and Google were a bit more relaxed. Arranging for bonuses could just might work in Apple’s favour if it is thinking of benefitting all of its employees.
