Newborn declared dead in J&K, found alive during burial | India News – Times of India

JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Directorate of Health Services (DHS) on Tuesday constituted a four-member committee to probe a complaint against the sub-district hospital in Banihal where a newborn was erroneously declared dead.
The newborn girl, after being declared dead by the hospital staff in Ramban district on Monday morning, was found alive while being buried at the graveyard. She was later admitted to the government-run super-specialty G B Pant Children’s Hospital in Srinagar.
The negligence sparked protests against the medical staff by relatives of the newborn, prompting Ramban chief medical officer Dr Fareed Ahmed to suspend two employees posted in the labour room. A three-member team led by the deputy CMO was also set up to probe the matter.
Officials said a team headed by assistant director Dr Sanjay Turki has been asked to submit its report on the lapse within two days. The other members of the committee include a biomedical waste management nodal officer, a paediatrician and a gynaecologist.
Dr Turki confirmed that an investigation has been initiated, but refused to divulge further details on the issue.
