Nitish Kumar is naturally upbeat after the latest of his famous U-turns got executed without any hiccups. Before he called it quits with the BJP, the wily CM of 17 years had ensured that almost the entire Opposition had signed up to support him. Nitish then met Governor Phagu Chauhan and submitted his resignation. After submitting his resignation, Nitish straightaway held a meeting with RJD leaders, where the modalities of government formation was decided. While Nitish will retain the CM post, Tejashwi Yadav will take oath as deputy CM. Sources say RJD has also demanded the home portfolio along with the Speaker’s post. Deal done, it was celebration time for the RJD, that will be sharing power in the state after a gap of 5 years. The BJP, meanwhile, was left licking its wounds, for the second time in 9 years. Nitish had dumped the BJP in 2013 as well, just after the party had declared Narendra Modi as its Prime ministerial candidate. Ironically, this time too, Nitish broke the alliance days after Amit Shah had declared that PM Modi will be the party’s face for the 2024 elections.
