Non-local voters: Jammu and Kashmir parties decide to form committee | India News – Times of India

JAMMU: Continuing the attempt to garner support of political and social organizations against the inclusion of “non-locals” in J&K’s electoral rolls, the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) and other parties on Saturday held a meeting and decided to set up a committee to chalk out their future course of action on the issue.
The meeting was attended by all the five constituents of PAGD — NC, PDP, CPI(M), CPI and Awami National Conference. The Congress was represented by JKPCC chief Vikar Rasool Wani and working president Raman Bhalla.
After the meeting, PAGD chairperson and NC president Farooq Abdullah announced the formation of the committee to deal with the issue. Talking to reporters, Abdullah said, “The main purpose was to discuss the issue of inclusion of non-locals in the voter list of J&K. All parties unanimously decided to form a committee, which will chalk out a future strategy on the issue.”
Barring BJP, all mainstream political parties in J&K have opposed the inclusion of non-local voters, though Sajjad Lone-led People’s Conference and Altaf Bukhari’s Apni Party preferred to stay away from the meeting. New entrant in J&K politics, the Aam Aadmi Party also stayed away from the event.
