oneplus: OnePlus may become Oppo’s sub-brand, claims leaked internal memo – Times of India

A couple of days back, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau had announced that the company is going to merge more deeply with its sister company Oppo.
While a lot of questions about this merger remained unanswered, one thing that Lau cleared was that OnePlus will continue to work independently.
Now, a new alleged internal document has leaked online by tipster Evan Blass. This document answers more questions about this merger. The document appears to be a response guide for frequently asked questions.
The biggest query is about the operating system of the OnePlus and Oppo smartphones integration as that is the essentially the differentiating factor between them as specs wise there isn’t much exclusivity left. The document, however, asks whoever it is meant to be for to not respond to any “OS or ColorOS questions that target the integration announcement.”
It asks the respondents to categorically say, ”We currently do not have any update regarding the operating systems. Please stay tuned to our official channels.”
Another interesting thing revealed in this document is that OnePlus is now a brand within Oppo. However, it does reinstate that the two brands will continue to work independently as they have been till now.
It also alleges that OnePlus will not share any user data with Oppo as the former all continue to store user data in its own servers as always.
Last week when this announcement came in Lau had said, “As for the OnePlus brand – we will continue to operate independently, focused on providing you with the best possible products and experience as we have always done. We will continue launching OnePlus products, holding events (hopefully in person soon) and engaging directly with you for feedback through the same OnePlus channels as before. OnePlus’ commitment to you remains the same.”
