Pooja Hegde: I still feel like a baby in this industry and have a long way to go – Exclusive! – Times of India

Pooja Hegde, who made her big Bollywood debut with ‘Mohenjo Daro’ alongside Hrithik Roshan, is currently basking in the glory that comes with having a solid lineup of films. The actress feels great to have established herself in the industry despite not having a ‘filmy background’.

In an interview with ETimes, Pooja opened up about how she will be juggling the myriad projects she has in the offing. Ask her if she had ever imagined her career will shape up like this and she says, “It’s both, yes as well as a no (smiles). I think that I am always someone who is going to be hungry and going to be wanting more and want to do more for sure. At the same time, it also feels great to know that someone like me, who comes from a non-filmy background, has managed to establish herself in the way that I have. I still feel like a baby in this industry and have a long way to go”.

Does the length of screen time allotted to her factor in while signing a film? Pooja shares an anecdote in reply, revealing she had said ‘yes’ to Rohit Shetty for ‘Cirkus’ without even asking what the film was about. “It depends on a lot of factors. Today, when Rohit Shetty called me, I didn’t even ask him what the film is about, nor did I ask him who was in the film. I just said ‘yes’ and I was on! That’s because you want to work with that director, artiste, or producer. It also depends on projects. There are times where I have said ‘no’ to a film even if the role was good, but because I didn’t like the script. Sometimes scripts don’t excite me or confuse me, which makes me feel that if I don’t understand it, maybe even the audience won’t. So, it’s just not about the screen time. I don’t want to be there in 90 per cent of the film and then have a bad film in hand. I would rather only be 10 per cent in a film but have a great product. It’s been really good for me, some really big films are coming and I hope they do well for me,” Pooja expresses.

The actress will be exploring different genres in her upcoming projects. She will be seen with Ranveer Singh in ‘Cirkus’, ‘Radhe Shyam’ with Prabhas, ‘Bhaijaan’ with Salman Khan, and a bunch of other South projects. Speaking about them, Pooja assures that it will be a treat for the audience. The actress exclaims, “I am very excited to have a line up like this, to begin with. I promise that when the audience watches the films, they are all going to be very different (from each other). One is a romantic comedy, the other is a serious mature love story, one is an action film, while the other is an action-romance, and then there is a complete comedy masala entertainer. I just can’t wait for the audience to see a little bit of me in each and every film. I am very excited and hope the theatres open soon and we figure a way out to entertain people in a safe way”.
