Rani Mukerji: My husband works with so many actors, why shouldn’t I work outside YRF? – Times of India

If at all there’s any notion that Rani Mukerji might stick to working within her home production (YRF) post marriage, the actress cleared the air at a recent event. During a conversation with Karan Johar and producer Nikkhil Advani, Rani spoke about her first film outside the YRF label in a long time – ‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’.
Dismissing speculations on her limiting herself to YRF, she said, “I am a mom now and my daughter is my priority. If I get a good script, I will work anywhere. My husband works with so many actors, why shouldn’t I work outside?”
She went on to add, “He (Aditya Chopra) praises me behind my back. He was moved by this movie (‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’). He gave me a side hug as if I was his child. He said, ‘Well done,’ and I said, ‘Thank you.’”

Speaking about the film and the real-life incident it is based on, Rani revealed she based her character on her mother Krishna Mukerji and did not meet Sagarika Bhattacharya (whose story inspired the film) but heard her tapes. “I did not meet Sagarika, never spoke to her. I wanted this to be my interpretation of the character. I didn’t want any baggage. I saw tapes of Ashima Chibber (director) chatting with her. I understood the emotional graph. It was anger, frustration, loneliness. I sought inspiration from my mother. I have just taken my mother and put her into Mrs Chatterjee. She is so connected to her Bengali roots. I mom got married to my dad 50 years ago and after 50 years of living in Mumbai, she still speaks Hindi and English with a strong Bengali flavour and accent. I think of her as a Bengali tigress. I was imaging my mother and how would she react had my brother and I been snatched away from her. I can’t fathom the idea of someone taking Adhira away from me.”
