Sathiyan to join national camp on September 11 | More sports News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Star paddler G Sathiyan, who is currently featuring at the Polish League, will be joining the national camp on September 11. Sathiyan had earlier sought exemption from being part of the camp which commenced on Thursday.
Sathiyan, who featured at the World TT Contender in Hungary and the Czech Open last month, will be arriving in the coming days from Poland. “I have mailed TTFI (Table Tennis Federation of India) stating that I will be joining the camp on 11th of this month,” Sathiyan told TOI on Friday.
Earlier, Sathiyan and Manika Batra had conveyed their intention of skipping it. TTFI, on its part, had stated that attending national camp was an important criterion for national selection. Missing the camp could mean that they may be overlooked for selection in the Indian team for the Asian championships scheduled to be held in Doha later this month. Sathiyan, on his part, makes it amply clear that there was no specific reason for the U-turn.
While Sathiyan will be joining the camp late — it remains to be seen if Manika would follow suit. Both Manika and Sathiyan have been in terrific form as they won the mixed doubles title at the WTT Contender in Budapest last month and performed well in the singles events too. Sathiyan had gone on to win the men’s singles crown in Czech Open.
