Security cover of MVA netas drastically cut or withdrawn | India News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Opposition leader Ajit Pawar, MPCC president Nana Patole, Congress legislature party leader Balasaheb Thorat, former home minister Dilip Walse Patil and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab are among the 20-and-odd Maha Vikas Aghadi politicians whose security cover was either been drastically cut or withdrawn with immediate effect on Friday. Significantly, the security cover of Milind Narvekar, once a trusted aide to Uddhav Thackeray, was enhanced.
Eyebrows are being raised over the unexpected decision of the Shinde-Fadnavis government to scale down or withdraw the security cover provided to MVA leaders. Ajit Pawar’s security cover has been reduced from Z to Y+ and Walse Patil’s has been pared down from Y+ to X, while Patole, Thorat and Parab’s has been completely removed. “It’s politics of revenge,” said NCP leader Eknath Khadse, whose security cover has been withdrawn.
An official said deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis is not even remotely associated with the task of providing security cover. The decision was taken by a three-member committee of chief secretary Manukumar Srivastava, additional chief secretary (home) Anand Limaye and DGP Rajnish Seth. They didn’t respond to TOI texts.
“Protecting the life of an elected representative is the responsibility of the state government, which must have felt that now there is no threat to my life. In my opinion, more security is needed for the 40 legislators who are supporting the Shinde-Fadnavis government,” Thorat told TOI.
Former home minister Chhagan Bhujbal, too, confirmed that his security has been withdrawn. Security cover of Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Sanjay Raut, Nawab Malik (both in jail), state NCP president Jayant Patil, Aaditya Thackeray’s cousin Varun Sardesai and few others has been withdrawn.
