Soon you will be able to block users on Google Drive – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Google Drive enables both individuals and organisations to store, share, and collaborate from anywhere. However, over the years hackers have used Google Drive to target users with spam filled documents.
Google has now come up with a solution for this as well. The company is introducing user blocking in Google Drive.
“Drive’s sharing capabilities fuel productivity and collaboration, but bad actors can abuse tools that are meant to facilitate helpful sharing. That’s why it’s important to have the necessary security controls in place to fend off these sharing threats”, Google said in a blog post.
User blocking will help protect Drive users in three ways:
– Block another user from sharing any content with you in the future. This can be a useful control if, for example, another user has a history of sending spam or abusive content.
– Remove all existing files and folders shared by another user. This is an easy way to get rid of all spam or abusive content shared from a specific user at one time.
– Remove another person’s access to your content, even if you’ve previously shared it with them.
Google claims that this new feature will help in protecting the safety of Drive users. The company will be rolling out this new privacy feature in coming months.
Apart from this, Google also announced new features for Google Sheets and Docs at I/O 2021. Users can now jump from a discussion in Google Chat directly to building content together. Creating and editing Sheets and Docs from Google Chat rooms is already live and Google says that it will enable it for Slides as well soon.
Google is also getting something called Smart Chips that shows you additional information like the person’s location, job title and contact information. All users need to do is simply type “@“ and they will see a list of recommended people, files and meetings.
