Swastika Mukherjee blasts the patriarchy in our society | Bangla Movie News – Times of India

There are certain unwanted consequences if you are a single mother and also an actor. Swastika Mukherjee has faced this for years being a single mother. The firebrand actress feels that it is unfortunate that when a relationship doesn’t work out, it’s thrown into a controversy. “If you are in love with someone and it fails to be materialized into a marriage, then our society says you are doomed. And then people see it as a controversy. But for me, it’s really funny. We always see a single parent would be a woman. Interestingly, there are so many single dads. And if you’re an actress it becomes something like a khichdi. Media will write too much gossip and rumours about your personal life and you would always feel what will happen if your child read it! You always pray that they don’t believe in what’s being fed by media. Luckily I belong to the ‘your mom is very cool’ type. So, I have sailed through nicely,” explains the actress. Are society’s stereotypes making actors vulnerable, especially in their personal lives? Well, Swastika says she doesn’t care about what people have to say about her. “I think people can’t understand the difference between an actor’s reel and real life. And, you can’t just respond to everything or clarify everything related to your life. But with the advancement of social media, perceptions are changing slowly. The change has to come because so much of our personal lives are highlighted on Instagram,” shares Swastika.
