This city is the ‘digital payments capital’ of India in 2022 – Times of India

Paytm has released a Recap 2022 report that shares how India used the app and some interesting finds related to the online transaction trends on the payments platform. Paytm UPI users can also track their individual payments in 2022 through paytm.com/recap.
As per Paytm, one Paytm user booked flights between Delhi and Mumbai 358 times, another user made payments on Paytm from 106 cities in India and a third person referred 1,300 people and earned Rs 1 lakh.
Delhi-NCR registers 2X growth
While Delhi-NCR emerged as India’s digital payments capital with 2X growth as compared to last year, Tamil Nadu Katpadi became the fastest growing city for digital payments with 7X growth in 2022, the report said. As per Paytm, two out of three of its new users came from smaller cities and towns.

Moreover, Chennai and Trichy in Tamil Nadu recorded the highest percentage of offline payments on food and beverages, Noida and Nagpur saw the highest percentage of spending on micro sellers or street-side vendors. Amritsar saw the highest spending on health and grooming.
“Engaging observations have been seen in merchant transactions with Rs 20 being the most common amount paid on Paytm merchant QRs. Varanasi has seen 213 per cent growth in Offline QR transactions,” the report said.
Paytm grew in Northeast
Paytm’s market in the North East also saw huge growth. The report claimed that the fastest growing cities in the North East for UPI transactions are – Lohit in Arunachal Pradesh, South Sikkim and Ranipool, and Assam’s Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat and Kamrup.

Interestingly, the maximum number of payments have been done at 7.23 pm and Wednesday emerged as the busiest day in the week for digital transactions. The company also claims that it helped its users avoid over 161 crore “trips to ATMs”. Furthermore, two of the most common names among Paytm’s users are Rahul and Pooja, the report noted.
Highest transaction by volume during festivals
As per Paytm report, most men sent Rs 1,100 “shagun” during Raksha Bandhan. Diwali saw a Paytm user spending Rs 2,80,000 online shopping – highest amount spent by a single user on the platform.
