This tech giant was named ‘worst company’ of 2021 in the US – Times of India

If Mark Zuckerberg and the folks at Meta would’ve thought that changing the name of their company could bring some respite, then perhaps they were mistaken. According to a survey done by Yahoo Finance, Meta (Facebook) was named the worst company of 2021 in the US. The open-ended survey was done on Yahoo Finance website and got more than 1,500 respondents.
Facebook was the worst company and got 50% more votes than Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, which came in second. Those who voted for Facebook found a lot of things that the company did wrong in 2021.
As per the report, users weren’t happy for Facebook ‘censoring’ too much. There were those who felt that the company didn’t do enough to tackle fake news and misinformation on its platform. “A significant amount of responses focused on executives and founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg,” noted the report.
Facebook did have its fair share of controversies in 2021. A whistleblower said that Facebook’s algorithms were designed to make people depressed and angry.
The company rebranded itself earlier this year. “We chose “Meta” because it can mean “beyond,” and captures our commitment to building social technologies that take us beyond what digital connection makes possible today. Facebook’s logo has also been redesigned. “We are also introducing a new logo and colour to accompany our new company brand. The logo is treated in a blue gradient. “It’s designed to be experienced in 3D so that it truly comes to life in the metaverse – where you can move through it and around it,” Facebook said. Looks like the rebranding may not have helped as people still seem to have problems with the company.

Meanwhile, other hated companies on the list include AT&T, retail trading platform Robinhood, Citadel Securities, and Tesla. Even though Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, was named man of the year by Time magazine, there were many people who were unhappy with Tesla.
