TMC’s Anubrata Mondal gets 10-day CBI custody in cattle smuggling case | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal on Thursday was sent to 10-day CBI custody in connection with a cattle smuggling case.
The CBI arrested Mondal from his residence after twice skipping his scheduled appearance before the central probe agency in three days.
Earlier in the day, a CBI team comprising at least eight officers and central forces personnel reached Mondal’s residence around 10 am, and conducted a search operation, as part of the probe.
Mondal, the TMC district chief, was grilled in a room on the second floor of his residence, an official said. The agency said he was not cooperating in the cattle smuggling probe.
His bodyguard Saigal Hossain has also been arrested by the central agency.
Earlier this month, CBI teams raided 13 locations, including the residences of Mondal loyalist Karim Khan and his aide Ziaul Haque at Ilambazar and Nanoor. Another CBI team reached the house of stone merchant Tulu Mandal, known to be close to the TMC leader. Apart from Rs 17 lakh and 10 mobile phones, the agency recovered pen drives, hard discs and the key of a locker.
