tsmc: Apple could get behind in the chipset upgrade game, claims analyst – Times of India

Apple may use the A16 chipset made from the 5nm process only in the iPhone 14. This speculation has been given strength by a new claim by noted tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He claimed in a tweet that the 3-nanometer and 4-nanometer fabs by TSMC will not be available for mass production until 2023, based on the public roadmap of the Taiwanese manufacturer’s silicon processes.

ShrimpApplePro on Twitter had earlier made similar claims. Going just by these, it looks unlikely for Apple to speed up the arrival of the chipset upgrades on the iPhone. This, after the possibility of the lower rung models of the iPhone 14 being given the A15 ones, with the A16 being reserved for the top-tier model.
Kuo also had said earlier that Apple will not introduce the M2 chip in its MacBook Air until 2023 and that the company would use the same M1 chip in its upcoming next-gen MacBook Air.
Hence, if we choose to believe Kuo, we might not see anything much new from Apple on the chipset side of things, be it iPhone or the MacBook. The chip shortage being faced by TSMC could be a major benefactor to further the cause of the delay. To keep things fresh and bear out the slow pacing of the rollout, Apple could introduce a few changes to the current chipsets it is using and use different names for that.
